I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and am extremely passionate about what I do. I have ten years of experience and expertise in anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship problems, Christian counseling, and other severe and persistent mental health challenges; if you are struggling with any of these issues, I welcome the opportunity to work with you. I love to work with people who have difficulty expressing themselves, communicating effectively, and setting boundaries with others. I also love to address issues facing women of color including (but not limited to): navigating life stressors as a woman of color, issues related to self-esteem, and the stigma of mental health treatment.
My style is to use an insight-oriented approach. Insight-oriented therapy involves having a client-centered conversation that helps guide you towards developing an improved sense of self. This involves connecting experiences from your past with your present thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Our sessions will involve taking a more intimate look at the ways you have learned to cope using maladaptive patterns that are holding you back in some way. We will then work collaboratively to help you learn healthier and more effective coping strategies.
My goal as your therapist is to help you make sense of your life experiences in a safe and nurturing environment. Many of us have grown up thinking it was “wrong” or “bad” to discuss our life experiences with a professional for fear of being judged or ostracized by our families, communities, and those closest to us. Rest assured that no problem is too small, your feelings are valid, and the experiences you have been through are worthy of being heard and healed from. It is so important that we as individuals learn to express our needs as important and to see ourselves as worthy in spite of what we have been through.
What I love most about being a therapist is empowering clients to feel confident in expressing themselves in meaningful ways. I love watching clients process and heal from previous traumas in ways that facilitate healthier relationships in their lives. Last and most importantly, I love to see clients experience first hand the benefits of therapy and how transformative it can be.
