“Stories are memory aids, instruction manuals, and moral compasses.”
~ Aleks Krotoski,
“I define connection as the energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard, and valued; when they can give and receive without judgment; and when they derive sustenance and strength from the relationship.” ~ Brené Brown
For as long as I can remember, I have always been captivated by stories. The stories we are told, the ones we overhear, but most importantly the ones we tell ourselves. Often, we are told how to share our stories or told that we should not share them at all; sometimes, our stories are even dismissed by those we love: “You can tell but only to …” or “What happens here stays here” or “You’re making this up”. When you have been told this over and over, your story goes from being yours to being hidden. My goal is to provide a safe, non-judgmental place where you feel empowered to share your stories and your truths with me.
My desire is to make sure that when you and I are working together, you feel seen, heard, and valued. I understand that seeking therapy to process life events and stressors is not an easy decision and my hope is that by taking this first step in the journey, you will begin to show up and speak up for yourself.
In therapy, my role is not to tell you what to do, but instead to establish a therapeutic partnership with you to develop an individual plan that enables you to achieve your goals and to be your best self. I enjoy providing my clients with tools and homework assignments that will aid them in reaching their goals. My areas of passion and expertise include self-esteem, trauma, anxiety, depression, life transitions, grief and loss, Christian counseling, and other challenges.
My therapeutic style can be described as collaborative, expressive, and supportive.
In addition to talking, I like to incorporate creative approaches in sessions such as) music, poetry, and art. My therapeutic approach is client-centered with a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Creative and Narrative therapies, and Trauma-Focused Therapy.
